Learning Commons at the CBE
Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.
School Literary Materials Selection
Related to Ministerial Order (#034/2025), Standards for the Selection, Availability, and Access of School Library Materials, CBE has published an administrative regulation AR3051: School Literary Materials Selection. Families and community members can request a review or reconsideration of a literary resource in a school's learning commons by completing the School Library Materials Reconsideration Challenge Request through their local school.
CBE also has an eLibrary online tool available to families, students and staff, which is an online catalogue for all CBE school libraries with detailed information on books, DVD’s and other resources that are available to borrow.
Additionally, parents and legal guardians are welcome to review classroom library collections by contacting your child's school.

The Learning Commons is a vibrant space where students can explore, discover, create, and develop a lifelong love of reading. Through engaging books, stories, and learning experiences, students are encouraged to build curiosity, strengthen literacy skills, and see themselves reflected in the resources around them.

Indigenous Collection
Our Learning Commons includes a growing collection of Indigenous literature that reflects the voices, stories, histories, and experiences of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. Students have access to books that honour Indigenous Nations from across Turtle Island and celebrate diverse Indigenous cultures, languages, perspectives, and ways of knowing.
We are committed to continually expanding our collection to ensure students see themselves, their communities, and authentic Indigenous perspectives represented in the books they read.
Supporting Identity and Belonging Through Reading
At Niitsitapi Learning Centre, we believe stories are a powerful way to strengthen identity, build understanding, and foster connections. Our Learning Commons supports students in exploring who they are, learning about others, and developing a deeper appreciation for Indigenous knowledge, cultures, and traditions through literature.
