One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
If a formal school council is not established, the principal may establish a Principal Advisory Committee (PAC) for that school year.
Our Principal Advisory Committee, or School Council, serves as a collaborative platform for the school administration, staff, and parents to enrich the learning opportunities for NLC students. It also offers parents the chance to familiarize themselves with the school, lend support to initiatives, and offer their input.
During these advisory meetings, we discuss aspirations for your children, exchange ideas, and coordinate events in a casual and friendly atmosphere. All parents and caregivers of NLC students are warmly invited to participate. Your attendance and insights are crucial in shaping the direction of our school. Kindly express your interest in attending the next School Council / PAC meeting by completing the NLC School Council RSVP form.
