Kiakitamatsin: See You Later, Not Goodbye
Now that the school year has come to a close, we’ve been thinking back on these last few weeks together and smiling. There was so much joy, laughter, and pride, watching our students grow not only in their learning, but in how they care for one another and the strong connections they have built.
Our final days together, through the Transition and Moving Camp Ceremony, field trips, and Niipo Camp games, felt like a true celebration of all of that. You could see it everywhere: in the way students encouraged and cheered each other on, in their curiosity and excitement to try new things, and in the pride they felt as they shared their learning.. It was such a joy to engage in these closing activities together, sharing joy, connection, and a real sense of pride in all that was learned. In so many ways, we saw iikakimat —students giving and doing their best, lifting one another up, and taking pride in their learning. Again and again we heard, “This was the best day ever!” and in those moments, it felt true that there can never be too many days best day evers!
The end of a school year always brings a mix of energy, memories, and quiet appreciation for what’s been shared. This year felt especially full of heart, and also brings us to an important moment of transition for some of our students.
We want to send a special farewell to our Grade 2 students as they move camp to their next school. We are so proud of you and so thankful for the joy, curiosity, and spirit you brought to our days. You will always be a part of our Niitsitapi family.
In Blackfoot, there is no word for “good-bye.” Instead, we say kiakitamatsin, “see you later.”
To our Grade 2s, kiakitamatsin. We can’t wait to hear about where your journeys take you!

Celebrating New Beginnings
This time of year also brings change and new beginnings within our staff team.
This spring, we say farewell to Ms. Harmony as she steps into her new role as a System Assistant Principal. She has been such an important part of our school, bringing kindness, laughter, and deep care to students, families, and staff. She will be truly missed, and we are so grateful for everything she has shared with our community.
We are also happy to welcome Mr. Shane Spriggs as our new Assistant Principal. We look forward to the leadership and care he will bring to our school.
An Invitation to Keep Learning This Summer
As summer begins, it also brings opportunities for simple, meaningful learning moments.
Summer has a way of reminding us that learning doesn’t just happen at school, it’s in the everyday moments you share together:
- Read a story, visit the library, or tell family stories
- Count things on a walk, cook together, or play a simple game
- Spend time outside, notice the sky, the land, and the changes around you
- Create, build, draw, sing, and imagine
- Invite your child to help at home and celebrate their growing independence
These small moments matter. They build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.
On behalf of our entire staff, thank you for being such an important part of the Niitsitapi Learning Centre family. It means so much to share this work—and your children—with you.
We wish you a restful, joyful summer filled with connection and time together.
We look forward to seeing you again in the fall.
Have a safe and happy summer!
Kiakitamatsin, hand to heart 🧡
