The first crocus of the year has marked the end of winter for thousands of years. Elder Hal Eagletail takes a walk every year and says the flower provides more than just a sign of the changing seasons. "The crocus is the first plant of spring, and it comes up first and tells all of the other plants go ahead start growing it is time for a new life cycle."

Solar Eclipse Precautions
On Monday, April 8 a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2 PM, with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 PM. We will have an indoor recess.
We know that this provides a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner.
During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional.
For more safety information can be found on the NASA website or from the Canadi an Association of Optometrists.

Community Connection|
Gratitude to everyone who was able to participate in our Spring Blessing Ceremony alongside Elder Saa’kokoto. It was a moment for preparation and celebration, as we gathered to honour the blessings of the season, nurturing our spirits, hearts, bodies, and minds. Our Elders have imparted the wisdom that this season is a tribute to Na’a (Mother Earth) and a period of renewal marked by beautiful transformations. Let us reflect, look back, and prepare for the journey ahead during this time.
Looking forward|
Family Cookbook Submissions
We're seeking recipes to create a Niitsitapi Family Cookbook. If you have a family recipe to share, please send it to Ms. Harmony at htjeffery@cbe.ab.ca along with your child's name. Students will assist in illustrating, and we aim to publish the cookbook for the end 2023/2024 school year.
