Rabbit, Bunny, Snow, Winter

Iinii Insights|

At this time of year, Blackfoot Territory enters a time of colder weather. Days become darker, and Grandfather Sun provides less warmth. Anita Eagle Bear has shared that November's full moon is when the cold weather arrives, iitaoi'tsstoyi. As the crisp air settles in, the land transforms into a canvas painted with deep hues of brown and gold, as the last leaves of autumn dance their way to the ground and the snow begins to fall.

The once-bustling rivers and streams now flow with a quiet serenity, their surfaces shimmering under the fading light. Wildlife begins to prepare for the harsher days ahead; animals seek shelter or gather food as part of their age-old instincts. The elk herd is often seen moving to lower elevations, following trails carved out by years of migration.

The time for reflection deepens, as the community turns inward, fostering connections and preparing for the challenges and blessings that winter will bring.

As the moonlight casts a silver glow over the snow-dusted landscapes, there is a sense of tranquillity and resilience that envelops Blackfoot Territory, reminding all who dwell here of the intricate dance of nature, and the importance of living in alignment with its rhythms.

Celebrating Kindness and Uniqueness in Grade 1/2

In a special lesson, our Grade 1/2 students discovered the importance of kind words and giving others a chance to shine, inspired by a story shared by Elder Leonard.

SnakeAs part of this activity, each student took turns sharing what makes their classmates special. They talked about the wonderful qualities they see in each other, emphasizing how our words and actions can uplift those around us. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm as they celebrated each other’s uniqueness!

To bring the story to life, each student crafted th

eir own rattlesnake, illustrating the message of kindness and acceptance. They tied a red cloth around the rattlesnake’s neck, resembling a scarf, to symbolize the powerful lesson learned — that we should treat everyone with kindness and allow them to reveal their special qualities, just like the unique snakes in the story.

This enriching experience not only deepened their understanding of compassion but also built a stronger sense of community and friendship among the students. Together, they learned that we are all special in our own ways, and a little kindness can go a long way!
